Forces Friendly Recruitment

Policy

Version: 1.0

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that James Consulting Training Ltd maintains a fair, inclusive, and supportive recruitment process for individuals from the Armed Forces community. We recognise the significant contribution that veterans, reservists, cadet volunteers, and military families make to society and the workplace.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Veterans and Service leavers

  • Serving Reservists

  • Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs)

  • Spouses and partners of current or former Armed Forces personnel

  • Adult children of Service personnel who have recently transitioned into civilian life

It is applicable to all recruitment and selection activities conducted by James Consulting Training Ltd.

3. Our Commitment

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and participant in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, James Consulting Training Ltd pledges to:

  • Ensure no member of the Armed Forces community is disadvantaged in our recruitment and selection process

  • Proactively encourage applications from forces-connected individuals

  • Recognise military-acquired skills, qualifications, and leadership experience

  • Promote flexible opportunities that may suit the needs of reservists and military families

4. Job Advertising and Outreach

We will:

  • Include a clear statement of support for the Armed Forces community in our job advertisements

  • Use inclusive language that encourages applications from non-traditional or military backgrounds

  • Promote opportunities through Armed Forces-aligned networks such as:

    • Career Transition Partnership (CTP)

    • RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity

    • OA – Officers’ Association

    • Forces Families Jobs

    • Step Into Health (if in healthcare)

5. Guaranteed Interview Commitment

Where appropriate, James Consulting Training Ltd operates a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for veterans and reservists who meet the essential criteria of the role.

6. Assessment and Selection

  • We recognise that CVs from ex-Service candidates may not follow typical civilian formats — hiring managers will be trained to assess military career paths fairly.

  • Where relevant, we will seek to align transferable skills and leadership experience from military roles to the role’s requirements.

  • Interview panels will be briefed on forces-friendly hiring principles and unconscious bias.

7. Induction and Retention

Upon hiring a member of the Armed Forces community, we will:

  • Offer tailored onboarding to aid transition into civilian work culture

  • Assign a workplace mentor or buddy where possible

  • Invite them to join any internal Armed Forces support group, if in place

8. Training and Awareness

Hiring managers and HR teams will receive periodic training and briefing on:

  • Armed Forces Covenant obligations

  • Reservist and veteran legislation

  • Transferable military qualifications and skills

  • Inclusive hiring practices

9. Monitoring and Reporting

James Consulting Training Ltd will:

  • Collect voluntary diversity data from applicants to monitor the effectiveness of this policy

  • Review recruitment outcomes annually to ensure fairness and identify opportunities for improvement
