Cadet Force Adult 
Voluteer Policy

1. Purpose

​

The purpose of this policy is to outline James Consulting Training Ltd’s commitment to supporting employees who volunteer as Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) with the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets, or Combined Cadet Force. We recognise the valuable role CFAVs play in developing young people and enhancing our local communities.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees of James Consulting Training Ltd who are confirmed CFAVs, or those undertaking selection and training to become one.

​

3. Our Commitment

​

As a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and supporter of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, James Consulting Training Ltd will:

​

  • Encourage participation in cadet forces as a form of civic service.

  • Support employees with flexible arrangements and special leave to fulfil their volunteering duties.

  • Recognise the leadership and mentoring skills CFAVs bring into the workplace.

​

4. Support and Leave Entitlement

​

Employees who are active Cadet Force Adult Volunteers are entitled to:

​

  • Up to 5 days additional leave per year (paid or unpaid) to support activities such as:

    • Annual camps

    • Cadet training weekends

    • Leadership courses

    • Adventure training events

​

Additional leave beyond this may be granted at the discretion of the line manager.

​

Employees should provide as much notice as possible and submit supporting information (e.g. confirmation of role or event dates from the cadet unit or detachment commander).

​

5. Flexible Working and Adjustments

​

Where possible, James Consulting Training Ltd will:

  • Consider flexible work patterns to accommodate evening or weekend cadet responsibilities.

  • Permit early finishes or late starts with advance notice for cadet commitments.

  • Provide access to facilities (e.g. meeting rooms or printing) for cadet planning when reasonable and pre-approved.

 

6. Recognition and Internal Engagement

We will:

​

  • Recognise CFAVs and their achievements through internal communications and company events.

  • Promote awareness of cadet forces across our workforce and encourage more employees to volunteer.

  • Participate in or support Cadet Week, Armed Forces Day, and youth-focused Defence events when possible.

 

7. Line Manager Responsibilities

​

Line managers should:

​

  • Familiarise themselves with this policy

  • Support staff with reasonable adjustments or time-off requests

  • Encourage wider team understanding of the value of volunteering

​

8. Review and Monitoring

​

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains aligned with MOD and RFCA guidance. We may collect anonymised data on uptake of CFAV leave to assess and improve our support.
