Threats to kill, The Hollie Willoughby Story.

So its clear for us all no one not even security officers are above the law, on Friday Gavin Plumb was sentenced to life in prison for planning to abduct, assault, and kill TV host Holly Willoughby.

Plumb, 37, was caught when an undercover US police officer joined an online group named Abduct Lovers and flagged Plumb's concerning posts to the FBI, following this, US authorities contacted UK police, leading Essex Police to discover chloroform bottles and an "abduction kit" with cable ties during a raid on Plumb's Harlow residence.

Following a previous trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Plumb was found guilty by unanimous decision of soliciting murder and inciting rape and kidnap, a verdict that left him in tears.

After Plumb's arrest, former This Morning host Ms. Willoughby stated that women should not have to feel unsafe in their own homes, during the trial, it was revealed that Plumb's schemes were thwarted when an individual he communicated with online turned out to be an undercover officer from the Owatonna Police Department in Minnesota, USA.

Plumb, using the alias David Nelson, expressed his serious intentions to the officer regarding the plot to kidnap Ms. Willoughby, creating an impression of an imminent threat to her.

Upon his arrest on October 4 last year, Plumb admitted to officers that Ms. Willoughby was a fantasy of his.

The Dancing On Ice celebrity decided to forego her right to anonymity in relation to the charge against Plumb for assisting or encouraging rape.

Individuals who are alleged victims of sex offenses or targets of sex offense conspiracies are entitled to automatic lifelong anonymity from the moment an accusation is made, whether by themselves or by someone else, Plumb's plans for kidnapping involved a scheme to "ambush" Ms. Willoughby at her family residence, even going as far as discussing taking time off from work to carry out the attack.

He informed others of his intention to then transport the presenter to a different location, which he referred to as a room resembling a "dungeon."

Prosecutors characterised Plumb's scheme as "carefully orchestrated," citing the specific items he had acquired and the extent to which he had researched Ms Willoughby's security arrangements.

During her opening statement to the jury, prosecutor Alison Morgan KC informed the court about his prior convictions for false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, indicating that they demonstrated his knowledge of how to instil fear and overpower a woman.

In his defence, Plumb claimed that it was merely online conversation and fantasy.

What has this done for the security industry then, I'm not sure it will bode too well for the company employing Plumb, it has highlighted that no one not even security officers is above the law, and it has re-inforced certainly in me the need to keep an eye on those around you and within your teams by carrying out due diligence and periodic checks on staff to make sure no one is stepping out of line and the greater need for the protection of those around us.

Celebrities should also be looking hard at this and while nothing is in the media about them they too could have some crazy fantasist planning something for them, they should be looking at tightening their security up and not thinking it won't happen to them.
